Prison Ministry

Category: Outreach
Meetings: as needed
Contact: Deacon Richard Boucher

This is a ministry to the MacDougall - Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield.

Aim: Members go to the prison to share scripture and lead religious discussions with those at the Correctional Institution. A positive religious experience helps inmates acquire new values, make positive changes in themselves, and find God s peace in their hearts.

Overview : Volunteers become agents of change for the inmates and keep hope alive .
Working with Prison Chaplains, volunteers provide various religious programs. Typical
Programs include: Bible Study, Religious Video Presentations and Discussions, Legion of Mary, Eucharistic Adoration, Praying the Rosary, and Stations of the Cross.

Skills required :

Leading Prayer and Bible Study discussions to a small group of inmates. Religious instruction experience, and teaching experience is helpful. Good understanding of our Catholic faith.

Time Commitment:

Programs are normally scheduled in the evenings and normally run 1 hours. Some daytime programs are also available. Some volunteers also provide visits to an individual inmate who would otherwise never receive any visits.
